Speech Analysis after Sandy Hook

The Sandy Hook  school shooting was a horrific tragedy that caught the nations and worlds attention, and gave momentum to stricter gun control in the United States.  After the Shooting President Obama gave a speech at the Sandy Hook elementary prayer vigil. Shortly after the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre also made a speech to comment on the Sandy Hook Incident as well.  Below are the word boxes from both speeches made, by Obama and LaPierre.

From this information we can see that both speakers used the word “Children’ a large amount of times.  The impact of using it often reminds the listeners of who got hurt during this tragedy, and reiterates what kind of things they are being faced with in this world.  “Children” is one of the few common words that they both used.  Obama’s speech seemed to lean more towards the compassionate side, with words like “comfort”, “Love”, “Nation”. “Good”, and “Community”.  LaPierre’s speech seems to go more towards a feeling of action, with words such as “Security”, “Protection”, “Armed”. “Right”, and “Now”.  Both speeches are good in their own right, and they were both about the children.  Obama’s seemed to be more geared towards comfort, and LaPierre is more towards action.
